New study wants wildlife bodies to take action on “damaging, racist and bigoted” bird names

While I agree that this quite a worthy cause, I have some questions:

To whom, exactly, are those bird names “harmful and offensive”? Have any of the birds themselves complained? If not, aren’t those two (white?) male human bipeds being just a tad presumptuous? Can’t they let those birds speak for themselves? And—even more important—why are there no birds on the faculty of East Carolina University, or on the staff of the UK’s Natural HistoryMuseum? Are we really to believe that there are no birds qualified for those positions?
