Iowa man sentenced to 16 years in prison for setting fire to LGBTQ flag
However noxious this guy’s action, it hardly merits 16 years in prison; and anyone who thinks it does is far more dangerous than he, as this jaw-dropping sentence is fascistic, although this fascism is terribly (that adverb is appropriate) “diverse.”
What’s the punishment for setting fire to an American flag? From the Flag Act of1968 (passed in reaction to the anti-war types—or cops pretending to be anti-war types—setting fire to Old Glory at protests of the war in Vietnam):
Whoever knowingly mutilates, defaces, physically defiles, burns, maintains on the floor or ground, or tramples upon any flag of the United States shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.
So the LGBTQ flag is more “sacred” than the Stars and Stripes—and in Iowa? It’s a case that the ACLU would once have taken on, back when it defended people’s First Amendment rights, instead of pushing Social Justice ideology.
