From Steve Horn:
It’s an extremely under-told story, but absolutely shouldn’t be: the exact route of the Keystone XL tar sand pipeline has never been revealed to U.S. citizens.
Thomas Bachand, who I interviewed in the piece below, has been waiting for about a year and a half for a simple FOIA request, asking for a map with GIS coordinates of KXL, but was told it will take a long time because it’s “politically sensitive.” What’s the State Dept. hiding and how are we supposed to make an informed decision on the pipeline when neither TransCanada nor State are even telling us where the pipeline will sit and what exact bodies of water it will go through? After it’s built, it’s too late and the damage is done.
Knowledge is power and when only the powerful have it, that’s an undemocratic abuse of power. I’ve also helped create a Facebook macro that’s easily shareable and linked to below that also includes a link to the piece. Any help getting this piece out there would greatly appreciated.
For over a year, Thomas Bachand has been waiting for the State Dept or TransCanada to answer basic questions about the exact route of the Keystone XL pipeline. We have no idea exactly where the pipeline will be placed, so how can we know the risks to local waterways? Read more here: http://bit.ly/13biWPZ
