From Jonathan Simon:
This WI gerrymandering points up just how far the repercussions of the theft of a single election (e.g. 2010)
extend. Taking control of state legislatures (and governorships) in dubious electoral victories that are now far beyond legal challenge enables not only radical policy changes such as being implemented by new “electees” Walker and Kasich (e.g.), but also these tremendously potent and far-reaching alterations of electoral maps, that essentially guarantee a continuing and unshakable hold on power.
This amounts to an ongoing coup that, deriving from a single theft, can then take on the false guise of ordinary politics as the consequences of that root manipulation play themselves out.
