New pathogen turns up in GE crops, but USDA still okays Monsanto’s wares

USDA Approved Monsanto Alfalfa Despite Warnings of New Pathogen Discovered in Genetically Engineered Crops

Mike Ludwig, Truthout: “Just two weeks before the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) fully deregulated Monsanto’s Roundup Ready alfalfa, a senior soil scientist alerted the department about a newly discovered, microscopic pathogen found in high concentrations of Roundup Ready corn and soy that researchers believe could be causing infertility in livestock and diseases in crops that could threaten the entire domestic food supply.”

Nazis helped the CIA test LSD on human subjects (Hank Albarelli)

CIA Denial of Coddling Nazis Far From the Truth – Part 2
by Hank P. Albarelli Jr.

In the second part of his investigation, Hank Albarelli peels off another layer of the ongoing Operation Paperclip cover up and unveils one of its darker legacies. Working with Paperclip Nazi scientists and building on the results of their often deadly research, the CIA tested LSD psychoactive drugs on almost 7,000 unwitting U.S. citizens over a 20-year period. Those LSD experiments, and Paperclip itself, were among the first manifestations of what became a guiding principle of the Cold War right to the present day, that the ends justifies the means.

Murdoch/Koch collude against Wisconsin workers

Murdoch and Koch Collude Against Wisconsin Workers

Excerpt: “Ginning up the right-wing rabble is a Fox News specialty. Glenn Beck is more than a talk-show host; he’s Rupert Murdoch’s community organizer. Like Koch, Murdoch embraces a completely deregulatory agenda: one that would leave giant corporations such as News Corp., the second largest entertainment company in the world, according to Fortune magazine, with nary a single regulation to stand in the way of profit-taking.”

What they’re fighting all throughout the Arab world—and what’s we’re really fighting here—is fascism (MUST-READ by John Pilger)

Behind the Arab Revolt Is a Word We Dare Not Speak
Thursday 24 February 2011
by: John Pilger, t r u t h o u t | News Analysis

Shortly after the invasion of Iraq in 2003, I interviewed Ray McGovern, one of an elite group of CIA officers who prepared then-president George W. Bush’s daily intelligence brief. At that time, McGovern was at the apex of the “national security” monolith that is American power and had retired with presidential plaudits. On the eve of the invasion, he and 45 other senior officers of the CIA and other intelligence agencies wrote to Bush that the “drumbeat for war” was based not on intelligence, but lies.

“It was 95 percent charade,” McGovern told me.
“How did they get away with it?” I asked.

“The press allowed the crazies to get away with it.”

“Who are the crazies?”

There’s something happening everywhere—and Washington just doesn’t have a clue (Tom Engelhardt)

All-American Decline in a New World
Wars, Vampires, Burned Children, and Indelicate Imbalances
By Tom Engelhardt

This is a global moment unlike any in memory, perhaps in history. Yes, comparisons can be made to the wave of people power that swept Eastern Europe as the Soviet Union collapsed in 1989-91. For those with longer memories, perhaps 1968 might come to mind, that abortive moment when, in the United States, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, and elsewhere, including Eastern Europe, masses of people mysteriously inspired by each other took to the streets of global cities to proclaim that change was on the way.

For those searching the history books, perhaps you’ve focused on the year 1848 when, in a time that also mixed economic gloom with novel means of disseminating the news, the winds of freedom seemed briefly to sweep across Europe. And, of course, if enough regimes fall and the turmoil goes deep enough, there’s always 1776, the American Revolution, or 1789, the French one, to consider. Both shook up the world for decades after.

But here’s the truth of it: you have to strain to fit this Middle Eastern moment into any previous paradigm, even as — from Wisconsin to China — it already threatens to break out of the Arab world and spread like a fever across the planet. Never in memory have so many unjust or simply despicable rulers felt quite so nervous — or possibly quite so helpless (despite being armed to the teeth) — in the presence of unarmed humanity. And there has to be joy and hope in that alone.

PayPal backs down, reinstates accounts for Bradley Manning supporters

From Bradley Manning Support Network

PayPal Backs Down, Reinstates Account for Supporters of Bradley Manning [2011-02-24

Apparently reacting to enormous backlash from supporters and criticism from the media, PayPal has reinstated the account of Courage to Resist, an organization which has partnered with the Bradley Manning Support Network to raise funds for the defense of accused WikiLeaks whistleblower Bradley Manning. The change in account status came only hours after the nonprofit organization published a press release drawing attention to the matter.
Over 10,000 people signed the petition hosted by Firedoglake today urging PayPal to reinstate the charitable account, while many more supporters called PayPal directly to voice their criticisms.
Within hours, PayPal responded — reinstating the account so that Courage to Resist and the Bradley Manning Support Network can continue their work.

Help KPFA and Project Censored!

Dear Friends of KPFA and Project Censored,

Mickey Huff and I have been volunteers hosts on the Thursday Morning Mix show on KPFA (8:00-9:00 AM) since late December. We have covered some very important topics including: US Economy and the Collapse of the Dollar, Immigrants Rights, Racism and White Privilege, Media as Entertainment, and the Crisis in Higher Education in California. .

We volunteered because KPFA is in a funding crisis and needs to be fully supported.

  • We believe that there is no topic that should not be covered on KPFA community free speech radio, especially the most censored news stories that we feature on our website ( and in our annual yearbook—Censored 2011.
  • We will be offering special premiums during our Thursday show this week February 24 and the following March 3. On these shows we will play segments of speeches from the Understanding Deep Politics Conference in Santa Cruz last May. This unique nine hour DVD features, Peter Dale Scot, Michael Parenti, Dahiia Wasfi, Ellen Brown, David Ray Griffin, Annie Machon and others. The talks openly discuss the underlying issues of covert power in the US that had led us into war, conflicts, economic decline, 9/11, election fraud, torture, renditions, and loss of civil liberties. This entire set of DVDs will be offer for a pledge of $125 to support KPFA.
  • In addition, we will be featuring a 54 minute DVD of Richard Gage from Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth presenting scientific information at Sonoma State University last fall on the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings 1-2 & 7.

  • The Gage DVD will be offered for a $60 donation to KPFA. There no conspiracy theories on this DVD, only hard scientific facts that raise troubling questions regarding the truth of 9/11 Commission report.
  • The book premium is Peter Dale Scott’s new book American War Machine available for an $100 support gift to KPFA. Peter will be on air with us at 8:30 discussing Deep Pokutucs, the CIA Global Drug Connections, and the road to Afghanistan.

In Wisconsin, Koch’s men cut off debate, and ram it through (VIDEO)

Just say NO to Koch! This Saturday, rallies in all 50 states!

Saturday Rallies And Events In All 50 States
by Dave Johnson
Campaign for America’s Future
February 24, 2011

Do you want to show your support for working people? Do you
want to show your opposition to tax cuts for the rich
forcing cuts in the things government does for We, the
People? Here is your chance.

There are SAVE THE AMERICAN DREAM rallies planned in all 50
states for this Saturday. Campaign for America’s Future has
joined with and other organizations to ask people
to join and show their support for public employees in
Wisconsin and everywhere, and for working people everywhere,
and for ourselves.

There are also a number of local events being “crowdsource”
organized by Click through to see the event map

US Uncut is about taking action against unnecessary and
unfair cuts to public services across the US.
Washington’s proposed budget for the coming year sends a
clear message: The wrath of budget cuts will fall upon
the shoulders of hard-working Americans.

On Saturday, February 26, at noon local time, we are

Here is the text of the email that Campaign for America’s
Future and other progressive organizations are sending out:

This Saturday we’re drawing a line in the sand. We’re
putting everything we’ve got into one massive display of
progressive solidarity nationwide.

The protests in Wisconsin have created an opportunity
we’ve got to seize. For too long, Republicans have
dominated the debate over the economy. But this time,
the Republicans have gone too far.

That’s why we’ve joined with allies across the country
to organize solidarity rallies in major cities–
including every state capital–this Saturday at noon.
We’ll speak out to demand an end to the attacks on
workers’ rights and public services across the country.
We’ll demand investment to create decent jobs. And we’ll
demand that the rich and powerful pay their fair share.

Will you join us Saturday at noon? Sign up to join your
local rally here.

This massive progressive coalition is urging everyone to
show our unity with the protesters in Wisconsin by
wearing red and white to their local rally on Saturday.

It’s up to us to show our solidarity and make sure the
amazing energy in Wisconsin spreads to the rest of the
country, so that those who claim we can cut our way to
prosperity don’t win the day.

But to make that happen, progressives around the country
need to stand up right away and speak out against the
far-right attacks on workers and public services.

Republicans are launching similar attacks on workers in
other states. And in Washington, Republicans are
threatening to shut the government down next week unless
Democrats agree to massive cuts to everything from NPR
to education to food aid for hungry children. This is
our chance to shift the debate and put Republicans like
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and his tea party
friends in Washington on the defensive.

We’ve come together with a huge coalition of progressive
organizations–from the Netroots to the labor movement,
environmental groups to community organizations–to back
these rallies and make sure that the folks in Wisconsin
know that millions of people across the country are
standing with them.

Can you join in at the local rally Saturday? Sign up

Rally to Save the American Dream

In Wisconsin and around our country, the American Dream is
under fierce attack. Instead of creating jobs, Republicans
are giving tax breaks to corporations and the very rich –
and then cutting funding for education, police, emergency
response, and vital human services.

On Saturday, February 26, at noon local time, we are
organizing rallies in front of every statehouse and in every
major city to stand in solidarity with the people of
Wisconsin. We demand an end to the attacks on worker’s
rights and public services across the country. We demand
investment, to create decent jobs for the millions of people
who desperately want to work. And we demand that the rich
and powerful pay their fair share.

We are all Wisconsin. We are all Americans.

This Saturday, we will stand together to Save the American
Dream. Be sure to wear Wisconsin Badger colors – red and
white – to show your solidarity. Sign up today to join in!

Is Andrew Cuomo high on Koch? NY’s broke, and he wants tax cuts for the rich!

New York Is Broke but Cuomo Says, “Solidarity with the Millionaires”

New York State is Broke, but Governor Cuomo Joins GOP Push to Spare Wealthy
by Juan Gonzalez
New York Daily News
February 23, 2011

As many New Yorkers struggle to make ends meet and state and
city budget deficits skyrocket, our rookie governor has a
new, astonishing trick for his recovery plan – tax cuts for
the wealthy.

That’s right, Gov. Cuomo, the Democrat, wants to join all
those Republicans in Albany and slash an income tax
surcharge for every New Yorker making more than $200,000 a
year – a mere 5% of the population.

We’re not talking about a gross income of $200,000. This cut
would be on taxable income above $200,000 – after the filer
has taken advantage of every deduction and loophole IRS
regulations allow.
