Tomorrow evening (Monday, 9/6), we start the new First Tuesdays series at
McNally Jackson with a talk/signing by John Atlas, whose Seeds of Change
tells the whole truth, and nothing but, about the GOP’s long, winning drive to
trash ACORN–a big step in the party’s ongoing effort to pre-empt or steal
as many votes as possible.

The bookstore is at 52 Prince St. (b/t Lafayette and Mulberry) in Soho, and
the event starts at 7:00 p.m. (The bookstore’s phone number is 212-274-1160.)

John Atlas
Tuesday, September 7 2010, 7:00pm – 8:00pm

John Atlas, author of Seeds of Change (Vanderbilt University Press, $27.95)
Hosted by author, professor and activist Mark Crispin Miller.

For the autumn return of our First Tuesdays reading series, we invite John Atlas in to discuss his definitive account of ACORN, the motivated, much-maligned community organizing group. Yes, that ACORN, the one whose staffer gave uncertain financial advice to a man in an outlandish suit, the same ACORN illegally targeted by opportunistic right-wing legislation. It should make for a rousing evening. As always, the evening will be hosted by local professor author and activist Mark Crispin Miller.

John Atlas, a longtime public interest lawyer, writer, and organizer, is a founder and current president of the National Housing Institute, which publishes Shelterforce. His work has appeared in numerous publications including The Huffington Post, The Star Ledger, The New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Tikkun, The Nation, Dissent, New Jersey Reporter, and Social Policy.

Message from Mark: "I am a one-man operation, although assisted greatly by some volunteers, and, now and then, by people paid by others for one-time projects. There is no shortage of skilled, dedicated folks out there who want to help me. There is, however, nothing I can pay them with, unless you decide you can contribute something."
