In early March, Anthony Graber, a 25-year-old staff sergeant for the Maryland Air National Guard, was humming a tune while riding his two-year-old Honda motorcycle down Interstate 95, not far from his home north of Baltimore. On top of his helmet was a camera he often used to record his journeys. The camera was rolling when an unmarked gray sedan cut him off as he stopped behind several other cars along Exit 80.

Electronic Voting Machines in South Carolina

Many of you may have heard of the recent Democratic Senatorial Election in South Carolina. A candidate who made no attempt to campaign and has been charged with distribution of pornography lost the absentee (verifiable ballots) by the margin of 75% to 25% but won the nomination through totals on the unverifiable machines. Those totals were almost the same margin except now flipped. That election is presently being challenged by the only candidate that actually campaigned, a four term legislator and former Judge.

The election is being challenged based on mathematical probability of such an occurrence. Of course, situations like this never happen absent a scandal between the two vote patterns. If it survives the initial challenge, an opportunity exists to collect affidavits of the Democratic voters that voted at the polls in that election. Just as we did in 2006, this could clearly demonstrate that the machine are unreliable and should never be used in elections. This could provide the opportunity to end the use of these machines across the country forever. Just as important, if the results are declared unreliable, what chance does any winning nominee have in the general election. With the rise of the “Tea Party” we must make sure that the votes will be counted correctly and not let unexplainable elections be explained away by the media promoting a small population as if it were a massive movement.

I have discussed this possibility with the challenging campaign and should they approve, we must be capable of quickly providing results. The more time that elapses, the greater the possibility that the voter will not remember for whom they voted.

What we need is volunteers that have the ability to donate a weekend polling voters in the state of South Carolina. I should be able to coordinate housing and food for the event. If this is something you can do please notify me at ClintCurtis@ClintCurtis.com. Make sure you let me know if you prefer a particular area in South Carolina. When this action becomes available I will contact you with the information.

Florida’s Beach Cleanup

Oil has hit the Florida’s beaches. Jody, my wife, is presently on the East Coast of Florida (Daytona Beach – Cocoa Beach area) organizing cleanup volunteers. While presently hitting the West Coast the oil is caught in the Gulf Stream and will likely hit both the Everglades and loop around the coast to attack the East Coast of Florida.

She will be collecting the names of folks that would be available to assist in the cleanup. The cleanup of oil covered animals is somethign of a specialty so you would not be asked to perform that task. We will be looking for volunteers that would be willing to remove oil covered sand or build temporary leveis in order to keep the oil slick from contaminating wet lands. I will coordinate the volunteers with the proper agengies once we have collected enough folks to make a difference. To volunteer please call 321-267-6818, leave a message, and remember to tell her which coast or area you would be willing to work at.

We didn’t make the mess but it will take all of us to clean it up.

EXCLUSIVE: Documents, Employees Reveal BP’s Alaska Oilfield Plagued By Major Safety Issues
Tuesday 15 June 2010
by: Jason Leopold, t r u t h o u t | Investigative Report

Nearly 5,000 miles from the oil-spill catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, BP and its culture of cost-cutting are contributing to another environmental mess.

According to internal BP documents obtained by Truthout, and after interviewing more than a dozen employees over the past month, the Prudhoe Bay oil field, in a remote corner of North America on Alaska’s north shore, is in danger.

After two serious oil spills and other mishaps, the BP employees fingered a long list of safety issues that have not been adequately addressed, making the Prudhoe Bay oilfield vulnerable to a devastating accident that potentially could rival the havoc in the Gulf.

Obama DOJ Is Stonewalling on Records Connected to Siegelman Case

The Obama Justice Department is withholding more than 250 documents related to the recusal of
the U.S. attorney whose office oversaw the prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

John Aaron, an attorney in Alabaster, Alabama, filed a Freedom of Information request in early
2006 seeking information about the recusal of Leura Canary. The Justice Department, then under
the control of George W. Bush, turned over almost no information, so Aaron filed a federal lawsuit
in 2009.

Barack Obama appointees, of course, now oversee the Department of Justice (DOJ). But Aaron’s lawyer says the department continues to stonewall and has asked a judge to throw out the lawsuit.

BofA to limit duration of trades with BP
Untitled 297

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAC.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has ordered its traders not to enter into oil trades with BP Plc (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) that extend beyond June 2011, a market source familiar with the directive told Reuters.

The order to the bank’s traders came from a high-level executive and was made on Monday, according to a source familiar with it. It told traders not to engage in trade with BP for contracts beyond one year from this month.

While Obama’s telling people on the Gulf Coast that’s it’s safe to eat the seafood, local scientists and health officials are advising some people to LEAVE THE AREA, because of dangerous levels of benzene in the atmosphere:

Obama’s reassurances are just like the ones that came from Giuliani, and Bush/Cheney’s EPA, about the air in NYC just after 9/11.

Scientists now say oil spill is leaking between 1.47 million and 2.52 million gallons a day
By The Associated Press (CP) – 30 minutes ago

NEW ORLEANS – Scientists have provided a new estimate for the size of the Gulf oil spill that indicate it could be worse than previously thought.

A government panel of scientists said Tuesday that the oil spill is leaking between 1.47 million to 2.52 million gallons (5.56 million to 9.54 million litres) a day.

That is an increase over previous estimates that put the maximum size of the spill at 2.2 million gallons (8.33 million litres) per day.

From Linda James:

Mark:

As someone who has worked claims with insurance companies for over 25 years, I can tell you how the claims adjusters are trained to work:

First, they will process the paperwork very methodically-which means they’ll work one piece of the paperwork at a time. They’ll read that one section of the claim, then ask the claimant for many, many additional documents that they’ll say are related to that section of the claim.

The point of this is to delay, and slowly wear the claimant down. Most people are too busy trying to stay on top of life when hit with a disaster of any kind-fire, car accident or whatever.

They literally send such people on a pointless paper chase. Usually the documents that they request have absolutely no relevance to the case.

Also, according to state law (in most states), they can then claim they are “working the case” and that they are waiting for additional documentation from the client.

Once they’ve finished up with that first section, and the client has complied and submitted the additional requested paperwork, they’ll move on to the next, and start the process all over again.

They’re trained to process claims this way-and it’s successful. Most people just give up, deciding it’s too
time-consuming, frustrating and expensive to go through all that, so they accept the pittance of a “payout” offered them. I have seen client after client who was fully insured for 100% of the insured value accept 20-40% of the claim value, just to be done with it.

I have watched this process for years-and in fact, filed a grievance and put these practices on file with our insurance commissioner in Washington State. I had an insurance adjuster teach this to me.

Feel free to make this public. It’s the truth about standard practice by insurance companies-and it’s wrong.
