Breaking: Paul wins Republican Senate nod in Ky. –GOP race pitted Tea Party-backed Rand Paul against Ky. Secretary of State 18 May 2010 Dr. Rand Paul rode support from tea party activists to victory in Kentucky’s Republican Senate primary Tuesday night, delivering a jolt to the GOP establishment and providing fresh evidence of widespread voter discontent in a turbulent midterm election season. Paul had 59 percent of the vote — with returns counted from 29 percent of the precincts — to 37 percent for Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who had been recruited to run by the state’s dominant Republican, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Alabama geometry teacher uses assassination of President Obama to teach angles –He used the example of where to stand and aim if shooting Obama. 18 May 2010 (AL) A Jefferson County teacher picked the wrong example when he used assassinating President Barack Obama as a way to teach angles to his geometry students. Someone alerted authorities and the Corner High School math teacher was questioned by the Secret Service, but was not taken into custody or charged with any crime… “He was talking about angles and said, ‘If you’re in this building, you would need to take this angle to shoot the president,’ ” said Joseph Brown, a senior in the geometry class. [OMG. If the teacher was a Muslim, he’d be Miranda-less toast and on his way to Gitmo. –LRP]

Geometry teacher who used Obama assassination to teach angles placed on leave 18 May 2010 The Jefferson County teacher who used as an example the shooting of President Barack Obama while teaching lines and angles to his geometry class has been placed on paid administrative leave and faces possible termination, Superintendent Phil Hammonds said today. The teacher was questioned by Birmingham’s Secret Service office, but was released without federal charges after officials there found he wasn’t a viable threat to security.
