VOTING MACHINE ‘SMARTCARDS’ MISSING, GOP SAYS
November 3, 2006
Several electronic voting cards, used to cast ballots, are missing from a polling place in Memphis, according to the Tennessee Republican Party. In a letter to the Shelby County Election Commission, state GOP chairman Bob Davis Jr. charges the “lack of oversight and control” over the so-called Smartcards “has created a situation which could allow for voter fraud.”
He said the missing cards could lead to illegal votes being cast in Tuesday’s election.
“Once cast, an illegal vote made with the reprogrammed Smartcard would be indistinguishable from a legally cast vote,” Davis wrote.
