World’s Image of U.S. Slips Further, Survey Shows
By BRIAN KNOWLTON International Herald Tribune

WASHINGTON, June 13 – As the war in Iraq continues for a fourth year, the global image of America has slipped further, even among people in countries closely allied with the United States, a new global opinion poll has found.

Favorable views of the United States dropped sharply over the past year in Spain, where only 23 percent now say they have a positive opinion, down from 41 percent in 2005, according to the survey, which was carried out in 15 nations this spring by the Pew Research Center.

In Britain, Washington’s closest ally in the Iraq war, positive views of America have remained in the mid-50’s in the past two years, down sharply from 75 percent in 2002.

  • LOL Auh, the rest of the world is just “sour grapes” cause they’re so jealous of our free-dumbs and liberdys …that used to be provided to us through our Bill of Rights.

I’m sure you’ve noticed this telltale earmark of kook-aid drinkers: the belligerent insistance of championing Might Makes Right/Bigger Is Better while simultaneously, if not absurdly, having the audacity to adopt the America-as-underdog defensive position. Quite a display of ideological gymnastics involved there.

Within this framework, it seems a tad incongruous to hear DON’T TREAD ON ME!!! “American PRIDE” exclaimed from the biggest bully on the planet …from those living in a country that outspends all others combined militarily, while providing the least amount of humane/social assistance. From another perspective, however, the reasoning behind such skewed values of a good “Christian” country is all too plain.

  • Well it doesn’t matter what anyone else in the world thinks because…we are the USA and they are just jealous of our “freedoms” and economic prosperity and so on and so forth blah blah blah.

How many people in the U.S. know that we account for almost half of the money spent in the world on “defense”?

Do you think it would be more than 10%?

    I doubt it.

How many know that we have the highest infant moratality rate of any of the industrialized advanced nations of the world?

The amount of ignorance in this country is truly astounding. Most people have no clue that we are not liked in the world for very legitimate and real reasons.
