The GOP-led Dutchess County Legislature has just tonight unanimously passed a resolution calling on the State Board of Elections to insist that optical scanners will be certified.
– If the State Board does so insist, then election commissioners will have a true choice of voting technology.
– If this resolution (and others like it) were to fail, it is possible that voting manufacturers might decide not to offer their scanners – effectively eliminating any chance that New Yorkers would get paper-based voting.
Thanks go out to all the people who came to the Board meeting to speak favorably for this resolution. There is still much more work to do but this marks a turning point for Dutchess County.
