Republicans Suffer From Bush: US Map Trending Blue
by dreaminonempty
Fri Nov 18, 2005

The Survey USA 50-state polling is out for November, as noted before, and it’s not good news for Bush in more ways than one. His `base’ of strong support has dwindled to a grand total of two states. He is also losing ground among Republicans, notably in the South. And the number of respondents who are identified as Republican is decreasing. Will Bush ruin his own party? Maps and charts below…

First, the political landscape. Bush is loathed in the Northeast, and highly unpopular in parts of the Midwest and California. Most of what were called the swing states give him a 36-40% rating. His solid support in the Plains and the South is mostly a measly 41-45%. (I guess there’s not too much the matter with Kansas after all.) Only a handful seem to have any sort of sympathy for him whatsoever. This map is so much more satisfying than the ones from last year. And it supports the idea that we shouldn’t abandon certain regions of the country: they are coming to their senses.

Help, everyone! Send your Diebold protest & Call/Fax to STOP SOS McPherson

Friends around the country,

We need your voices with us. If California goes Diebold, we are in terrible, terrible trouble. It’s great if you call from out of state – tell them, “No way Diebold!” The office of Bruce McPherson, CA SOS is polling our calls: 916-653-6814 (main menu, press 6, then 3)

A small group of activists are valiantly protesting in Sacramento today, Monday, 11/21. It’s David vs. Goliath time, and we must show that we are many, many Davids. Please, don’t leave this for someone else to do . Save our (and your) VOTE!

The awesome folks at PEN have set up an extremely efficient way for Californians to send a protest to our congressional reps., and to the paper of our choice.

Let’s leave no stone unturned, or unslung. We only have until the 28th. Thanks!

ACTION #1 – Email your Reps!

DENY CERTIFICATION TO ALL DIEBOLD SYSTEMS

As a California citizen, I hereby demand that certification status be denied to Diebold based on the following criteria:

1. SoS is in violation of Section 505 of the Systems Procedures-as the VSPP no longer exists, a system cannot be approved by a non-existent VSPP.

2. Failure of the Diebold AVVPAT to be compliant with the State Jan. 21, 2005 AVVPAT Standards, in violation of SB1438, and not suitable for use as an AVVPAT-The Diebold AVVPAT fails all readability standards, cannot be read by people with less than perfect eyesight, is thermal paper, and has no guarantee as being able to maintain its integrity as a valid recount paper ballot of record over the Federally mandated 22 month retention period. Further, the configuration of the excess paper roll exceeding the storage capacity of the storage canister is a blueprint for polling site and storage problems.

3. Internet connectivity and compliance to AB1636- The Remote Access feature of the GEMS is not adequately controlled.

4. Fails to comply with the April 30, 2004 decertification orders and cannot permit a meaningful recount. The proprietary closed source code complexity, secrecy and protection status of the software of the Diebold system precludes and prevents any meaningful legal thorough forensic analysis and recount of any election run on Diebold equipment. There have been many numerous litigation filings against Diebold, and the discovery process for forensic examination of Diebold software is nothing but an extension of the basic recount procedure. Such denial of the public’s right to have a clear and transparent voting process is antithetical to the very foundation of American Democracy.

5. Failure of the SoS to address and acknowledge the documented accounts of detailed and extensive examination of malicious software programs and problems and massive security vulnerabilities in Diebold equipment, such as the Compuware report, the GAO report, and the Black Box Voting accounts.

6. Application of Election Code 19214.5 barring Diebold from doing business in California, due to their sale of uncertified software and equipment.

This Monday there is a meeting on electronic voting machines at City Hall.

We need people to pack the meeting. Everyone who can come, please do, even if it is only on your lunch hour. Apparently the City Council members do not necessarily pay attention to the testimony (I am giving some on quality assurance of these machines) but to the numbers of voters that show up!

Teresa Hommel is coordinating the testimonies, and says she will be on the right hand side (as you come in the door) in the front.

PLEASE ATTEND!

Media Ignore Mounting Evidence of Widespread Vote Fraud and Election Manipulation

GREEN PARTY OF THE UNITED STATES

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Green Party leaders urged the mainstream media to cover evidence, including a report from the non-partisan Government Accountability Office (GAO), which found that electronic voting machines can be manipulated without detection, along with other evidence of election fraud and obstruction.

“Why won’t the media cover the GAO report?”, asked Gwen Wages, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States. “Just as major newspapers and broadcast media ignored indications that intelligence of Iraqi WMDs and collusion between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda had been cooked before the U.S. invaded Iraq, they’re now ignoring the destruction of American democracy.”

After Election Day, 2004, Green presidential candidate David Cobb led efforts to investigate widespread reports of vote obstruction and manipulation by Republican and Democratic officials in Ohio and New Mexico, especially targeted at African American and young voters. Unlike 2000, the major U.S. media dismissed evidence compiled in 2004 by the Cobb campaign and revealed during hearings led by Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) that Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell and other Republican election officials used various means to fix the election’s outcome.

Is this the Election that will finally break the camel’s back?

With so much going on, few have noticed the extraordinary outcome of last Tuesday’s election in Ohio where the crooked state that brung you — by hook and by crook — a second term for George W. Bush may have turned in results so staggeringly impossible, that perhaps even the Mainstream Corporate Media (if only in Ohio?!) will have no choice but to look into it.

As usual, the Free Press’ heroic Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman are on the case. Their article on what happened on ballot issues 1 through 5 last week is A MUST READ for anybody who still gives the slightest damn about whatever democracy might be left in America. [Article included at source listed below.]

I’ll try to summarize here briefly. There were five initiatives on the ballot last week. Issue 1 was a controversial proposition for $2 billion in new state spending. The Christian Right was opposed (because some of the new funds might go to stem cell research), but otherwise, the Republican Governor Taft’s Administration (he recently plead guilty to several counts of corruption) was pushing it hard alongside progressives in the state.

Lucas County voting begins Election Day with problems at the polls

* The Blade Voters Guide *

Voting so far on new touch-screen machines has not been quite as seamless as local board of elections officials had hoped.

Lucas County Board of Elections director Jill Kelly said some voters left the precincts this morning without voting because the machines were not up and running. She urged people who had problems to return and cast their ballots.
